Hi I’m Sally a 24 year old Interior Designer and Bikini Competitor from Brisbane. My fitness story goes a little something like this...
My love for being active and being on stage started when I was about 11 years old. My mum enrolled m in my first circus class and for the next 10 years circus became my life. I trained at least 3 times a week at circus which included strength, flexibility and skills training with my specialty being in trapeze and hula hoops. I performed on a regular basis in small and large scale productions, locally and interstate. Once I left school I began teaching circus to children and adults while I studied interior design.
I got my first full time job as an interior designer at the beginning of 2013 which is when my involvement in the circus decreased. I still taught the occasional class and did the occasional training session but eventually I stopped all together.
In January 2014 I signed up to a gym and participated in their 12 week challenge. I picked a personal trainer off the board purely because they had a cool name, the helped me lose almost 6kg and gave me an appreciation for weight training. Once the challenge was over I thought what next and decided to compete in a fitness competition.
I competed in the INBA Queensland Titles in September 2014 in both the Bikini and Fitness Divisions. I didn’t place or make any call outs on the day but I didn’t mind because I was in the best shape I had ever been in and achieved the goal I set out to achieve.
My next comp was in May 2015 at the WBFF show held on the Gold Coast. I competed in the Bikini division and this was my first taste of the WBFF stage, I feel in love with it instantly. The amount of effort the WBFF put in to making their show a success and supporting their athletes is incredible. It’s not just a one day show but a whole weekend event. I made callouts in the morning show but did not place top 10 in the evening show.
My last show was with the WBFF in May 2016 again in the Bikini division but this time I managed to not only place second but also be awarded with my WBFF Pro Status. Leading up to this show I asked myself every day if I was putting in enough effort to win a pro card. I stuck to my nutrition, trained harder and practiced my posing more than I ever had before and it payed off - I know get to call myself a WBFF Pro Athlete.
I am now preparing to compete in the WBFF World Championships being held in Toronto, Canada later this year. Where my fitness journey will take me after next, I’m not sure, but do know that I would like to show people out there that you don’t need to be always 100% involved in the fitness industry and be a fitness fanatic in order to be a successful competitor.
